Merge PDFs or select pages: a checklist for the final document
Combine PDF files, extract required pages and correct orientation while checking order, page ranges, signatures and upload limits.
Merging is useful when a form accepts only one PDF. Page selection is useful when the recipient wants only part of a longer document. These operations solve different problems; neither automatically reduces every page's image size.
Before combining documents
Keep originals, write down the intended document order, and check the page count of each input. For three PDFs with 2, 3 and 1 pages, the merged result should normally contain 6 pages. This simple arithmetic can catch an accidentally omitted document.
Open merge PDFs, select the files and verify the chosen order. After processing, check the transition between documents as well as the beginning and end. Mixed page sizes can be valid, but a receiving portal may require consistent dimensions.
Select pages without guessing the numbering
The page-selection tool uses the PDF's page positions. A printed page number such as “3” may be on the fifth actual PDF page because of a cover and contents page. Inspect the document in a reader before entering ranges.
Use the syntax shown beside the page-range control. Review the returned page count and contents, including any pages selected more than once or deliberately reordered. Keep the original when removing pages containing signatures, notes or appendices.
Rotate only what needs correction
A sideways page can usually be handled with PDF rotation. Rotation changes the page orientation; it does not repair blurred text or straighten every skewed scan. Verify landscape tables and portrait pages after the change.
Final checks before upload
- The first and last pages are the expected ones.
- Every required document and page is present, in the correct order.
- Orientation and page dimensions meet the receiving site's rules.
- The output is under the byte limit; use PDF compression if necessary.
- Any requirement for a valid digital signature has been handled through an approved process.
